The hunger game

Earlier this year, Ryan, James and I read the Hunger Games trilogy by Suzanne Collins.

We all enjoyed these books and have spent a lot of time discussing them among ourselves.  We've even even gone so far as to adopt a few Panem rituals for our own. For example, when Seth or I need a child to perform a task, we hold a "reaping" and select a "tribute."   Amazingly, the kids respond well to this even when the task is an unpleasant one.

Given this background, I wasn't surprised when James stated that the terrain we were hiking through last Sunday looked an awful lot like the arena in the Hunger Games.
And you know, he had a point.
Since you never know when you might be attacked by a tracker-jacker or some other muttation, the boys decided they better take some precautions.
Weapon making is serious work.
Fortunately, they were up to the task.
Bring on the muttations!
