More iPod photos

Ryan is like his mama--he takes too many pictures of the dogs.
Darcy doesn't like SpongeBob.
I think this is the very last photo of Maggie.

Maggie in 2006

We said goodbye to our beloved Maggie dog last week.  I miss her tremendously.

These are some of my oldest Maggie pictures.  All were taken in 2006 which was a year after Maggie joined our family.

This one suffers in silence.
This one does not.

The weakest link

The dogs know that when it comes to food, James is the weakest link.  Not only is he the most likely to spill, he's also been known to intentionally slip them some snacks from his plate.
As a result, he seldom eats without an audience!

Cute Maggie

When Maggie first came to live with us, she was afraid of cameras.  I tried and tried to take a flattering picture of her, but most of the time she just looked scared and miserable.  In the seven years since then, Maggie has overcome her camera phobia but it's still hard to get a good picture of her.  Every now and then, however, I get lucky.  Doesn't she look cute in this photo?

Shiny, healthy Maggie

Every now and then, Ryan decides it's time to wash a dog.
Unlike Darcy, Maggie doesn't seem to mind this too much.
Once she's wet, it's time to apply the shampoo.
Ryan is hoping to achieve the healthy, shiny look promised on the bottle.
Maggie is not convinced.
The bath ends with a final rinse.
A clean dog in a dirty tub.
Isn't she shiny?

This weekend

Last weekend Darcy climbed to the top of a 12,000 mountain.  This weekend she faces a much tougher task--recovering from a sudden onset seizure disorder.

Darcy has had six grand mal seizures in the last twenty eight hours.  She's seen the vet twice and is on anti seizure medication.  Her bloodwork is normal and she has recovered quickly from each episode.  Today is all about watch and wait and hope.

During this difficult time, Maggie has been very loving towards her bratty little sister.
They almost never sleep together, but they've been cuddled up on and off all day.
Sister love.

Dog park!

For the first time in a long time, Carol and I met at Grandview Dog Park for a puppy playdate today.
Darcy was so happy to be out and about.  She ran...
and ran...
and ran!
She ran with dogs she didn't know...
and she ran with dogs she did know.
In fact, she singlehandedly...
created...
a dog park...
flash mob!
Maggie doesn't run as much as Darcy, but she does pretty well for such an old lady.
Tired happy Darcy.
Tired happy Maggie.

Sad girls, sad girls

Today the Buxton family stands divided.  The boys are outside playing with their pyrotechnics and the girls are inside hiding in the studio.

This one is doing ok.  She's not happy, but she's holding her own.
The big one, on the other hand, won't come out of her crate.
Not a happy face.

Camping at Cherry Creek

Carol and I took the boys camping last week.
Maggie...
and Darcy came, too.
Seth didn't spend the night with us, but he did help set up the tents.  He also played a few rounds of horseshoes with the boys...
and helped build the fire.
As soon as the fire was really rolling...
he gave me a goodbye hug and made his escape.
That was fine--Carol and I had everything under control.
The boys gathered wood,
threw horseshoes,
and played with the dogs.
James found a really cool "ghost leaf."
Dinner was hot dogs cooked over the fire.
Dessert was s'mores, of course!
The fire is the best part of camping, and we kept ours burning for hours.
One big happy family gathered around the fire.
Just don't let Carol catch you cooking the cherries over the fire--that makes her mad!
Things started to wind down as the sun set...
but then Kristin joined us and the party started all over again!
Happy siblings.
Everyone woke up bright and early the next morning and shared a healthy breakfast composed mostly of roasted marshmallows and s'mores.
After that, Carol and I packed up the tents while Kristin and the boys put out the fire.  Our first camping trip of 2011 was a big success--can't wait to do it again!
