S-p-e-l-l-i-n-g b-e-e

Yesterday was the Highline Spelling Bee.  Mr. Langdon, the principal spoke as the twenty seven student contestants walked into the gym and found their seats.
Most of the kids looked nervous, but not James.
James was having a big time flashing peace signs and goofing around for my camera.
He settled down a little bit when the bee got started...
but he never did look worried.  Instead he got a big smile on his face every time it was his turn to go the microphone.
Several rounds passed and more and more children moved from the stage to the floor.
Still,  James was hanging in there!
At this point, it really looked like he had a chance.
The fifth round began with nine kids in contention...
but ended with just five.  Sadly, James was among the casualties.
He was done in by the word "waiver."  No worries, though.  He says the spelling bee was a lot of fun, and next year he intends to win it all!

Big congratulations to James for doing so well!

He may have inherited his grandpa's red hair genes but certainly not his spelling ones. Good going, James.
